Must Fight Urge!

So those of you reading along may or may not have notice I have a bit of a obsessive/compulsion issue when it comes to mini. Actually this goes for any hobby I have been into (comics, video games, WoW)and the reason I can only focus on one at a time. The latest example is my FADD army which I have been making references to in some previous posts.

Well my newest urge is to purchase a product to make scenic trays for the entire FADD army. I saw this website (http://www.tablewar.com/diorama-washers-a-step-by-step-guide/) a few months back and thought it looked interesting but it had not lasting impressions. That all changed two days ago. I was checking out some video tutorials by some of the painters I follow from time to time and saw this video.

Even though this video was using 40K minis my mind immediately started to race and come up with ideas on concepts and ideas for my FADD army. I then went back to www.dragonforge.com and found some diorama components that would go perfectly with the bases I ordered a week ago and could be put into the diorama base to tie them all together.....agggghh! I don't know if I would even use them for transportation but I have always wanted to get a display case for my finished minis and these would go perfectly in such a setting. I have been able to hold off (for now) but fear the temptation might be too strong. Hey Tablewar guys wanna send me some to try out and review? :) (like they will see this).

Dis and Dat

Morning all. Well I woke today at 2am to find my wife wasn't in bed. I got up and noticed my oldest wasn't in his room either so I headed downstairs to find them both on the couch watching TV. Apparently he got up a little after midnight and she had been trying to get him back to sleep since. Like an WWE tag team I got tagged in and she went back to bed. By 4:30am He was still up and I decided might as well get some painting done. After exchanging a couple text messages with Zack, and finding out he is going Mercs on Wed, I I decided I will play Khador. My package from Jersey should be her Wednesday but the mail gets here around 3-3:30 and I have to hit the road ~4:30 to head to the store so I won't have enough time to base one of the models like I want to.

I didn't really accomplish too much on the painting front just did a little here and a little there. I worked a little on Harlan blacking out where his metals will go and blocking in some base colors to see how I like the layout.

All the colors aren't blocked in yet (as evident by primer still being visible) but I think I like the direction he is going. I might try and block in the rest of it before the rest of the house wakes up but I should probably start doing some house work.

Since I decided on playing Khador on Wednesday I also had to look around and find one of the 'casters I intend to play. I am going with Vlad who is the 3rd oldest PP model I own. I bought and paint the Dark Prince back in late '03/early '04 (evidence below). He was am early work and I plan on doing a repaint at some point but he is good to hit the table.

OG MKI black and white card which had everything on just one card. Even in BW Vlad is a Pimp.

I also broke out the airbrush and put down the 5th Border Legion Green on my Extremoth. This thing is massive and is going to take a long ass time to paint but should be fun.

I told you he was big.

Last but not least I picked a model for this weeks 'scrum challenge and it is going to be the leader for a unit of trollkin champions. I also intend to do two grunts before the end of the month to meet the May PTT on Lost Hemisphere. There is not too much to see but here he is.

'Scrum Week 17 Done + Tourney Thoughts

After it looked like I might not do a mini for this weeks 'scrum challenge I ended up banging out a boneswarm in very little time and made the deadline easily. Here are couple pics of the finished 'swarm and a picture next to my first boneswarm. This gets me up to two bone swarms for my Blindwater army and one more waiting to get painted for my buddy. I am half tempted to paint the third one for myself to keep for a Maelok theme force now that the Witch Doctor has been put on the release schedule for August.

Boneswarm A and B. The new one is on the right. I painted the two of them via different processes with A using more washed and less drybrushing and B using drybrushing exclusively. I am not sure which I like better. I might put a thin glaze on B before I seal it with matte but I kinda like that they are a little different.

During the Wrath and Domination releases we had weekly 25pt tourneys every Wednesday night. These tounrneys were a blast and had a surprisingly large turn out for the middle of the week. Well PG_Eviscerae decided to set this up again for the next 4 weeks with the first one this coming Wednesday which I am excited about seeing as it is a week off for me and one of the only nights I'd be able to play. I am torn on which faction I am going to play. I am up in the air between by beloved trolls, the Motherland of Khador, or gators all of which hinge on a few things.

I should be getting a new box from Rob this week with my second batch of minis. I don't think they will be here in time for Wednesday's tourney but if they are trolls will be played no doubt. At the current time I think I am leaning toward Khador and breaking out the Extremoth I put in the Oh What's in the Box?!? post. There are just a few issues with playing Khador at this time. The Extremoth needs to have enough work done on him that I can glue him to his base (metals need to get done and green basecoat needs to be applied) and second that some models need to be assembled still. This is what I am thinking about:

Old Witch (-3pts)
*Scrapjack (n/a) <---need to attach to a base
*Behemoth (13pts)
Kayazy assassins: full (8pts)
*Kayazy Underboss (2pts) <---needs to be cleaned
Kayazy eliminators (3pts) <---needs to be assembled
Yet to be determined 2pt solo/merc (maybe Widomaker Marksman, Harlan or Gorman)

Butcher with a similar Kayazy list. The other Butcher list I am toying with is a goofy ranged type list

Butcher (-6pts)
*Behemoth (13pts)
*Sylys (2pts) <---need to find my blister and assemble
Greylord Ternion <---need to put them on bases
Winter Guard Rifle Corp: full (8pts)
Kovnik Joe (2pts)
Harlan (2pts)

The last Warcaster I am thinking about making a list for would be Vlad. He too would have the Behemoth in his battle group and maybe a berserker. Zack has showed me how nasty Greylords can be under Signs so I think they would go in the list too. Maybe something like:

Vlad (-5pts)
*Behemoth (13pts)
*War Dog (1pt)
Greylord Ternion (4pts) <---need to put them on bases
Nyss hunters: full (10pts)
*Valachev (2pts) <---need to find my blister and assemble

After just coming up with that Vlad list on the fly I am kinda liking it...hmmmmm. Obviously, due to SR2012, if I do pick one of these lists I can't pick the other seeing as character restriction keeps me from using the Behemoth in both lists. That doesn't mean I have to play (or even bring) the second list though right? :)

Scrum Week 17 Wip

I was able to work on this weeks scrum entry a little yesterday am and touch more today. So here is the progress on the boneswarm up to right now. Baring any issues I shouldn't have a problem finishing him prior to heading into work tonight.

Here are the two 'swarms primed. Didn't get a chance to base them seeing as I forgot my glue at work

Basecoated one swarm with VGC Beasty Brown. I mixed this with isoproyl alcohol and based it via the airbrush.

I ran of of paint in the cup so only basecoated on swarm. These steps were done yesterday before I went to bed.

Here is the one boneswarm after a couple layers of drybrushing and gluing down the sand on the base. The glue is in the process f drying so I will finish that up after I get up tonight.

Here is a shot of my previous boneswarm and the wip 'swarm. OK off to bed for me.

Just Pick a Model

So the week is flying by and I still haven't selected a mini to paint for this weeks 'scrum challenge. To be honest I haven't really felt the urge to paint much since last Friday. I am not sure what has caused me to sputter but I have been building lists wanting to play and thinking about the new army I am starting. These activities aren't going top keep me on track and in line for a possible war wagon so yesterday afternoon while I was watching the boys I looked over my minion and troll models for something I can bang out in 2-4 hours total paint time and still get to look good. I was considering finishing a half painted Maelok but this is kind of cheating.....I think. Trolls are out 'cause I am a touch OCD about them so this leaves me with minions as my only option.

It was at this time I started to feel a little defeated and started to say "well it was a good run". As I was about to throw in the towel I came across two blisters of boneswarms. YAHTZEE! These 'swarms would help me kill two birds with one stone. Maybe two or three months ago I was showing a guy at work some of my stuff and when he saw the boneswarm asked if I could paint him one for his RGP group. I brought the two blisters into work tonight and took a 20min break to assemble them (didn't have the bases) and I will prime them when I get home and should be able to layed down the basecoat with the airbrush as well. After that it will be a couple layer of drybrushing/washes. If all goes really well I might be able to have them done tonight but most likely tomorrow afternoon.

On the topic of my new FADD project my order for discountgamesinc.com showed up today. I placed my order at 1520 on Monday and had the order at my door at 1500 Wednesday. Idaho to New York pretty damn good turn around for free shipping. I have to say discount games inc has become my favorite online retailer by leaps and bounds. The only issue I have with them is the inventor seems to be a little thin. What I mean is that they appear to only have one or two of a lot of key minis so if you wanted to pick up two or three of the same item you might be out of luck. This happened to me with runeshapers in the past and a few solos this time were at one when I put them in my cart (I wanted two) and they were stocked out when I went to check out. At 30% off and free shipping with fantastic turn around time I can get past this. So I got 25pts worth of minis today which I hope to assemble over the next few weeks/months in anticipation of a one month painting challenge to myself. I might throw it out to the group and see if anyone wants to join me on this 35pt in a month journey (doubt it).

Still Kicking

Hey all. Well my paint station has seen very little activity since I "finished" Rorsh on Friday evening. The reason I put finished in quotes is I am not happy with some of the final detail work and need to redo it down the road. I have done a little work over the last few days but nothing of note. I primed the Extremoth that Rob did for me and a min unit of Trollkin Champions which I need to paint of the next three weeks to fulfill both my 'scrum requirements and this months PTT.

I have done a few more demo games with my buddy Greg and it looks like he might be really getting into the game so that was cool. The problem is these mini demo grams really has me itching to play a "real" game which won't happen for at least a week.

I also need to admit my FADD has once again gotten the better of me and I picked up 3 'casters from my FLGS with my last tourney winnings and placed an order with my new favorite online retailer discountgamesinc.com My goal with this army is to do one test mini over the course or this month them wait until the end of the summer to work on the rest. There are a few new releases I am waiting on to make the lists I have planned which is one of the reasons for the delay. The other is I want to do the entire army in one month. I want to try and push myself to not obsess as much over stuff and try and bang out an army but don't want to do that with my trolls. I also bought a bunch of scenic bases from dragonforge.com which i intend to use for the entire force. OK just a quick update need to get ready for work. Hopefully I will have some wips for you tomorrow of this weeks 'scrum mini as I really need to get going on that if I intend to submit something this week.

Week 16 Nearly Done

I didn't get to do too much more on Rorsh last night before I headed out to do my demo game. I did do a little work last night a little more this am and am now nearly finished.

I think most people would say looks done call it a day but I need to do the bandoleer and few more small detail items to call him done. I am heading into work for a meeting this afternoon and to pick up four hours of extra work so I will be finishing him up last min (only seems fitting I suppose) but it shouldn't be too stressful. I really should get cracking on his buddy so the pair is complete.
