Relic Knight Kickstarter Arrives

The very first Kickstarter that I pledged (some may say started an addiction) was Relic Knights. I'm not really sure how I exactly came upon this kickstarter (most likely due to Super Dungeon Explore) but at the time I was hooked. So back in September of 2012 I pledged my hard earned money on this new skirmish game and waited....then I waited.....and I waited....then I waited some more. I received my notification from CMoN a few days ago my package had shipped and that I could expect to receive my toys next week sometime.....well they arrived today. So a little more than a year past the expected delivery date lets crack open the box and see what we have.

All neatly packed away never to be as organized again

Nice solid hardback rulebook

Black Diamond box set and additional minis. Some of these were add-ons and some where unlocked via the campaign.

Star Nebula Corsairs! Who can't get behind some space pirates? Looking at my pictures it appears I have the least for this faction until I realized I made an oops in my photos.

The Doctrine. When I took this photo I thought to myself "damn I don't remember getting this much Doctrine" Well....I didn't two of the boxes are Star Nebula minis and that was the oops mentioned above.

The Noh empire or the required "bad guys" I presume.

Some base inserts I will most likely not use

A couple special edition add-on from the kickstarter. The boost packs were added for free but the two minis I added on and are from the Void faction which (from what I can tell) is like all the "bad guys" together. The "bad guys" are Noh, Black Diamond, and Star Nebula........huh looks like I like "bad guys"

Last but certainly least is the SDE minis based on Relic Knigts. These were originally suppose to be limited editions I believe but Soda Pop Miniatures has since stated these will be available to all after kickstarter fulfillment is completed.

OK there is a quick and dirty run down of what I picked up. I have to be fully honest that after all this time waiting I had lost pretty much all interest in this kickstarter except for the SDE minis. I still have some concerns with this project but now that I have the minis in my hands I am a little excited again to check it out. Due to the small skirmish size of the game and low mini count I am hoping to get a few of my buddies that are scared of Warmachine/Hordes to play this with me since I will be the one doing all the hobby stuff. Over the next few day I will do breakdowns and better unboxings of each individual faction but for now I gotta grab a nap before work.

Kickstarter Delivery: Mega Mat

I received a kickstarter shipment today and wanted to share it with y'all. Back in December I stumbled across a kickstarter by Frontline Gaming and Tablewars for a product they were calling the Mega Mat. Their concept was to have high resolutions video game quality backgrounds digitally printed onto mouse pad type surfaces in 6x4 and 4x4 sizes for high quality easy to transport/set up gaming tables. I watched the kickstarter for a few days and waited to see which designs were unlocked and finally decided to jump in when the space layout was unlocked. I picked up two mats one for Warmahordes and one for X-wing. On to the pictures y'all:

Box was checked with only one mat and the wrong one but Mickey warned me his was like this so I wasn't concerned. My guess is the outer boxes were re-purposed from the China shipment.

Inner boxes were fully tapped without a single section of exposed cardboard. Grassy plains and Space just what I was looking for.

Inside each small box was a draw string sleeve which was made of a nice heavy material. these feel like they will hold up very nicely to transportation and storage. My only wish was that it had a should strap for carrying back and forth.

Thinner than I expected but very strong and durable feeling. Smells pretty strong of mouse pad for the time being but I'm sure that will fad.

Grassy plain partially unrolled to get a quick glimpse. Even right out of the box it laid flat right from go. I was very pleased with the quality and this will be great for my trolls to kick some butt.

Borka says he'll be the judge of that. So Borka what do you think?...."OK fine you were right this will be perfect now get me a beer"

Next up I partially unrolled the space mat. Could this be a galaxy far far away?

Han decides he want to take a peek.

Time to make the jump to hyperspace...."punch it Chewie!"

I am very happy with the quality of these mats and that I decided to back this project in the last few hours. My plan going forward is to have a table frame made for these so that I can just unroll the desired mat into the frame and throw it up on the card table whenever I'm looking for a game. I will need to bang out/pick up some terrain for the Warmachine/Hordes table but that won't be too tough. The x-wing table is pretty much good to go but may try my hand as some 3D asteroids or maybe a moon to give it a little more flare.

Dark, Yet Sexy

I received this box two Wednesdays ago. I initially passed on the Kingdom Death: Monster kickstarter as the was ending right around Christmas and I didn't feel right dropping that much coin at that time. I was also concerned over the plastic sculpts and molds (still very worried about Relic Knights and this same thing).

As time progressed I regretted missing out on this kickstarter more and more but was able to get in as a super late backer on Black Friday last year. There was a recent kickstarter update in which the creator of Kingdom Death was selling some plastic version of their pin up models via the Kingdom Death webstore and at a reduced price. I wasn't drawn to Kingdom Death because of the sexy pin up minis but a few of these are just so cool I couldn't resist (since it was before the flood).

Cards for in game play when the game releases

Twilight Knight my favorite of the group

Forsaker my second favorite

White Speaker

You can see the mold line on the leg

Rubbed off nearly perfectly clean just by using my fingernail.

I am not sure when I will get a chance to start working on the minis but they are very very nice and the plastic quality seems to be fantastic. If this is the quality we can expect I cannot wait to get my hand on the full game release which should be sometime Q2......man I wish PP did plastics this well.

Sturgis, The Corrupted

When I got my kickstarter minis two days ago I would have told you that you were crazy if you thought dead Sturgis would be the first mini I assembled......and I would have been wrong. As part of the Vengeance release we have been having 25pt tournaments every Friday night with coins available every night. While this is not the traditional way people do book releases it has kind of become a tradition in our meta and in the past has turned into some large events.

I played my trolls Thursday night at the other FLGS so I wasn't planning on attending the Friday night event but after receiving a few texts from Les and Adam I talk with the wife and decided I was in. I picked up my Khador coin the first week (have the Khador coin from every book release) so I needed to decide what I was going to play. I jokingly said dead Sturgis to Adam and he convinced me I should and that I could borrow some of his stuff. Here is what I came up with:

Sturgis The Corrupted (*6pts)
* Ripjaw (5pts)
Bane Riders (Leader and 4 Grunts) (11pts)
Bane Thralls (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Bane Thrall Officer & Standard (3pts)
Pistol Wraith (3pts)

I am sure I could have come up with something better but I really wanted to try out Adams Bane Riders and giving them stealth is never a bad thing, right? Ok I decided I was going to play now lets get assembling:

Parts all laid out ready for cleaning/ assembly. The mold lines were not that bad but as you can see lots of tiny flash from vents (I assume)

The Corrupted all ready to roll. The left wrist connection point is very tiny so I highly recommend pinning this. I didn't pin due to time restraints and it has broken off at least twice already.

So you may be asking what do you mean time restraints? Why didn't you have time if you were just assembling the mini to play and that's it? Well...... I was texting with my Canadian buddy Mr. Bell AKA Northblade and he convinced me (didn't take too much) that I should try and get him fully painted before heading to the store. I had maybe two and a half hours before I had to leave for the FLGS but said what the hell lets give it a go. Due to the basement flood I have paints and supplies all over the hous right now so I had to scramble to find everything. It looked like I was going to be grounded before the flight even took off as I couldn't find any of my primer but I came across some grey Vallejo Surface right when I was about to throw in the towel. I'd say it took a good 30 min of my time away finding my supplies and get set back up.

Sturgis primed grey and standing next to a Dragonforge Designs Lost Hemisphere base (for motivation)

Corrupted metals basecoated. I did a mix of VMA gun metal and rust (metallic) to achieve this color. As this was drying I had to leave the house to go get my son off the school bus so that cut another 20min or so off my time.

Drybrushed the metal with VMA steel, then added some gold trim accents with VMC brass, then filled in some plates with the original corrupted metal base color.

Painted the pants with P3 Rucksack Tan and the boot covers with P3 Bootstrap Leather. As you can see the weapon hand snapped off (this was #2)

The last thing I was able to do before I packed up and headed out was basecoat the cloth in the mid-tone from the Reaper Master Series muted purple triad. I forget the name of the color at this time.

It was a decent effort and I am pretty happy with the progress after about an hour and a half of paint time. As you can clearly see there is a bunch left to do still but I should be able to bang him out pretty quickly once I sit back down with him. I think if I had an hour more before heading to the store he would have been "finished". I ended up going 2-1 at the event. The game I lost I tried to assassinate Butcher one. I tried to shoot him with the pistol wraith and missed. Tried to hit him with a boosted parasite (needing 8 on 3d6 since he wasn't iron fleshed) and missed. then charged him with 4 bane thrall grunts and two axe and missed all six attacks :o Well guess that wasn't meant to be. I know people don't think Cryx Sturgis is very good but I have to say I had a blast playing him. Playing Cryx again may have had something to do with it but I really like Sturgis and had a good time. I'd say the highlight of my night was in game one Les jammed mini-feated zealots into my army. I teleported Sturgis into the middle of them and feated killing ALL but one of the zealots! It was glorious. OK that's all I have for now hopefully I'll have a finished Sturgis for y'all to see soon.

My Nemesis Returns.......KICKSTARTER!

Title says it all. Some may say I have a Kickstarter issue (Northblade) but I can stop anytime ;) Well maybe I have a small issue. I have stayed away from the kickstarter for a few months now but I received an email from Cool Mini or Not the other day saying they had a new projects. Seeing as I have backed a few different CMoN run kickstarters I decided to take a look......ut oh.

The project is Arcadia Quest and it feels like a chibi blend of Super Dungeon Explore and World of Warcraft in a PVP setting. I immediately was attracted to the aesthetics of the game and the concepts seems fun. The game is campaigned based and there is a leveling up component I find appealing. I have not backed the project (yet) but it does seem like another good game for my buddies who are a little too intimidated by Warmahordes

When it Rains it Pours

After waiting so long for Kickstarters to arrive I have now received two boxes in the last 7 days :) I received my Rivet Wars kickstarter shipment about an hour ago. Lets do a little unbox shall we.... I love new toys :)

Brand new game smell :)

Packaged nearly identically to Zombicide

The green cards are the starts for all the minis the other cards say what they are ;) The dice are just regular old brown dice. I will be receiving faction dice later down the road when the fulfill the rest of the pledge items.

Small box contained the tanks and their hatch plug. Another try will be arriving at a later date.

Allied forces. This tray also contains the wound markers and a few other tokens. Will be getting another tray like this (minus the characters) when they fulfill that part of the pledge.

Blighten Empire. I think these are going to be my guys. Same as Allies another tray or grunts coming.

Dashboard sheets with the stats of all models in the base set. I think these will be very handy up front but once more of the Kickstarter items arrive the will lose some of their utility.

Punch cards for bunkers, objectives, and terrain items. As part of my pledge I will be getting plastic 3D versions of all of these but they decided they are going to ship them at a later time with other pledge items.

Lastly we have the boards. While I wanted to unwrap them I held off due to an email I received earlier today. I guess some people have been having some issues with warping and the guys at CMoN said they feel it may be due to some of the extreme weather going around at the moment....seriously its like Hoth cold here I'm pretty sure if it gets colder we are going to have to go to Tauntauns for transportation. The box and the contents were icy cold when I opened it so I am going to allow it come to room temp before I unwrap the boards and hope that will avoid any issues.

There you have it my shiny new copy of Rivet Wars! I hope to get a couple games here soon and I'll try and take a few photos and do a little write up on our first few games. Have a good one and try and stay warm y'all.
