Durgen vs Gaspy2 (battle report)

Hello all. I am going to try out something new today and see if it is something I'd like to do more often on the blog. I found an app which is suppose to help with battle report so I figured I'd give it a go today at the FLGS. I have been wanting to try Durgen out for a while now and almost brought him to the Dark Omen LCQ instead of Ossrum. I met Tim at the store today and he is getting back into Cryx after a couple years away from the dragonfather. I'm pretty sure I haven't used the app optimally so far and this may be a little clunky for a first go so apologies in advance. Any feed back appreciated. Onto the lists for today's game:

Nog:
Mercinaries: Highborn Covenant
Durgen Madhammer (*6pts)
* Ghordson Earthbreaker (19pts)
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts) (10pts)
Herne & Jonne (3pts)
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt (4pts)
Steelhead Halberdiers (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Tactical Arcanist Corps (4pts)
Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios (3pts)
Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile (2pts)
Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator (1pts)
Taryn di la Rovissi (2pts)
Thor Steinhammer (2pts)

Tim:
Lich Lord Asphyxious (*6pts)
* Helldiver (3pts)
* Helldiver (3pts)
* Nightwretch (4pts)
Bane Knights (Leader and 9 Grunts) (10pts)
Bane Thralls (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Bane Thrall Officer & Standard (3pts)
Bile Thralls (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Satyxis Blood Witches (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
* Satyxis Blood Hag (2pts)
Bane Lord Tartarus (4pts)
Darragh Wrathe (4pts)
Saxon Orrik (2pts)
Warwitch Siren (2pts)

The scenario was randomly generated using the website www.SR20x.com and after randomization came out to be scenario #7 incoming.

Table prior to dice roll for first turn and deployment. There are two obstructions that are tall enough to block line of site to a colossal on a hill, one hill, a linear obstacle, and shallow water. Tim won the roll and elected to go first and I selected the side of the table with the hill.

Tim's deployment. Blood witches to my left and lots of banes on my right.

I decided to deploy my steelheads across from the bane package and the nyss hunters and Herne and Jonne across from the blood witches.

Turn 1 Cryx: Stuff ran, hell divers burrowed, clouds were put up.

Turn 1 Mercs: I poorly planned my deployment with some of the solos due to not playing this list before and forgetting about the clouds. Durgen redlined the earthbreaker and put primed on the steelheads. He then walked forward and did a carpet bomb hoping for some good drifts. I had decent drifts but sub par damage rolls killing one bile thrall and the three bane thralls hit with blast either failed to exceed arm or passed tough checks. The nightwretch too three points of damage. The combination of H&J, Nyss, and Eiryss took half of the unit of blood witches off the table whi then failed their command check. Due to clouds and the obstruction the earthbreaker walked forward and scattered a few rough terrain templates hoping to slow down the thralls if possible. Thor repaired the redline dmg, TAC dropped clouds, and last parts of the army repositioned.

Turn 2 Cryx: Helldivers popped up and re-burrowed. Vengeance moves and some charges/advances from knights and thralls killed a couple steelheads. Asphyxious cast excarnate on a steelhead which brought back a bile thrall luckily for me not in a great location to threaten too many models. He then cast caustic mist and teleported into his little bunker of cloud and obstruction.

Turn 2 Mercs: Primed was upkept and redline was allowed to drop. Steelheads charges bane thralls and knights trying to induce freestrikes for multiple kills via primed. Aiyana gave the Nyss magical weapons so they could continue to shoot down the blood witches. Reinhold tmoved into position to reload Durgen who then moved towards the left zone. Durgen took a case cracker *attack on the nightwretch and the reload shot at a bile thrall killing the bile thrall and a warwitch siren with blast dmg. The Nyss killed the remaining blood witches except for the hag and then took a CMA into the nightwretch with the remaining Nyss. After the turn a total of 10 bane knights/thralls (just the right number, for cryx) were dead and the nightwretch was scrapped. (Photo was taken partway into Tim's maintenance phase)

Cryx turn 3: Helldivers popped up as seen in the turn two merc pic. Asphyxious activated, moved up excarnated, and feated back the 10 banes I had killed. The bile thrall purged kill Eiryss clearing a line to Durgen. The helldiver slammed Durgen into the obstruction and then the liberal application of feated banes put the little guy into the ground.

No es bueno Durgen!

All in all this was a fun game. Despite the loss I have to say I really enjoyed Durgen and plan to make him one of my go to merc 'casters going forward. This wasn't a perfectly played game on either side as we both made positioning mistakes at set up and throughout the game due to rust/lask of experience. On the bottom of two I thought there was an assassination attempt against Gaspy but I elected to skip it due to what I felt was a low probability. Hindsight being 20/20 I probably could have made this work and in looking over the photos I see some other opportunities I missed as well. I was pretty happy with the Durgen list I brought with me but would like to try out press gangers in the spot of the steelheads to get that primed unit stuck in sooner due to advance deploy. Hopefully this first attempt at a battle report wasn't too clunky and you were able to follow along ok. Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Templecon '14 Recap

Templecon '14 has come and gone and it's time for the wrap up. This years Templecon was a little on the bumpy side for me but more on that as we go.

My initial plan was to leave my house around 1pm to head out to Les' place. I was going to play a game with Adam before Les got home and we packed up for the ride. Well mother nature had different plans as we were getting hammered by a snow storm here in Central New York. After bouncing around different options he elected to try and leave around 7:30-8pm after the storm had passed. My drive to Les' (about 70min away) was a bit of a nightmare but we made it got the car packed and headed for Warwick. We got into RI between 1-2am and met up with some friends in the lobby. We got a sec to catch up Northblade and Chadi from Canada (had the good sense to leave a day early) and out of town Team Spite members John (Moz), Zack (z1g1), and Jeremy. I ended up heading to bed sometime around 3:30am with the vague recollection I told Les to get me in the am I'd stand in line at the PP store with him.

Day 1

Well the morning came and there was a knock at our door at 6:30......Les all bright eyed ready to roll. Being a man of my word I grabbed a quick shower and headed down to the gaming hall to get in line. We were the 9th and 10th people in line and none of us had an idea what was going on sale. There was speculation that Vengeance would be available but that turned out to be false. They opened the store at 9am and started the assembly line in motion. You were only allowed one of any items so I grabbed an extra floaty CoC heavy kit for Northblade and he picked up an extra trollkin sorcerer for me and we just swapped after paying. I also picked up a gatorman bokur and swamp shamblers box. Directly after the PP table Broken Egg was set up selling trays. I initially fought the urge to buy one but ended up doubling back and picking one up (good call). The PP store sold out of nearly everything by the end of the morning except for Butcher3 and maybe one other item.

Plummer and Shick running register at the PP store.

I really didn't do much day one since I figured I had three full days left to game (bad call). I walked around a far bit that first day and did a lot of watchmachine. A couple guys were playing in the 50pt special forces event so I stopped by to watch them play a bit.

Yes, John, those Kayazy passed another tough check

Nick rocking the Team Spite colors

I did manage to get one Iron Arena game in again Mr Chris 'gdaybloke Miller. We have tried to get a game the last few years and it finally came together.

'Gday setting up his very nicely painted Ret

Friday night Les and I headed out to Longhorn for dinner with Trevor and Jay from Chain Attack (Jay was in one of our rooms), Chilly Winters from Texas, and out of town Team Spiters John, Zack, and Jeremy. After having a few drinks with dinner and belly full of steak and potato I ended up calling it a night around midnight. My initial plan was to get together with Jaime and a few people to play some drunken Zombicide but my body had other ideas so off to bed.

Day 2

Friday am brought about the PP keynote address. All in all nothing too groundbreaking or amazing but still cool none the less. Looking forward to more info on the troll minis show in the presentation and the "something really awesome" Will Shick mentioned trolls would be getting instead of a beast pack.

Against my better judgment I decided to organize a team and try to play in the marathon that is the team tournament. Team Plan B was formed consisting of myself, Les, and Nick. John, Zack, and Jeremy also formed a team and tried to get into the tourney via the standby list. Well Team Spite got shut out of the event with our two teams being the last two out of the event. We ended up playing out our own team event with Les playing Jeremy (Jeremy Wins), Nog playing Moz (Nog wins), and Zack playing Nick (Zack wins) for an out of towner Team Spite W.

After this I grabbed an Iron Arena Game with Chadi from Canada. It was a fun and loud game ;) It was at this point however that things started to turn for me. I could feel the convention plague setting in and was only hoping it wouldn't bee too bad. I headed to the room early that night and just hung out in bed. I ended up having a really nice chat with Les and Chain attack Jay about the keynote, the con, and the state of the game in general. The chat was cut off when old man Les started snoring in the middle of the conversation signifying it was getting late.

Day 3

Saturday I woke up feeling like hell but decided to try and get into the special forces 50pt event. My two lists were:

Madrak Ironhide, World Ender (*5pts)
* Pyre Troll (5pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
* Trollkin Runebearer (2pts)
Krielstone Bearer and 5 Stone Scribes (4pts)
* Krielstone Stone Scribe Elder (1pts)
Pyg Burrowers (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Trollkin Fennblades (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Trollkin Fennblade Officer & Drummer (2pts)
Trollkin Warders (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Trollkin Warders (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Fell Caller Hero (3pts)
Trollkin Champion Hero (3pts)

Reinforcements:
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew (Leader and 1 Grunt) (1pts)
Trollkin Runeshapers (Leader and 2 Crew) (4pts)
Gatorman Witch Doctor (3pts)
Professor Victor Pendrake (2pts)

and

Grissel Bloodsong (*5pts)
* Earthborn Dire Troll (10pts)
* Mountain King (20pts)
* Trollkin Runebearer (2pts)
Krielstone Bearer and 5 Stone Scribes (4pts)
Trollkin Warders (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Trollkin Warders (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Janissa Stonetide (3pts)

List one is a pretty standard style Madrak2 list. List 2 was one I played 3 time in Iron Arena games and really enjoyed. There is a ton of beef in the list and if I can play a single zone scenario against an opponent with minimal armor cracking it can be a bear to chew through. I intended to play the Grissel1 list most rounds but long and short of it I ended up playing Maddy all three games.

Round one was vs Charles aka Omnus from Removed from Play. He was playing a Vayl2 theme force with three angels. The board had a forest in the center of the board which was not great for me. Charles is a very good player and between my illness and lack of recent gameplay I wasn't on the top of my game and ended up deathclocking myself. Charles was all set to win even when I deathclocked myself so the L was inevitable. Hopefully I can get a rematch one day when I am not sick cause I think we could have had a really fun game otherwise.

Round 2 I was paired up with Danny playing Cryx. He played a fairly standard pSkarre list. I was starting to feel worse and worse at this point and don't really remember the game too well. eMaddy survived a 12 focus Skarre assassination at the end of the round timer and we ended up with a tie. It wouldn't be a Templecon if I don't get a tie no?

Round 3 I got paired up vs Nick from my own meta. nick played his Zaal T4 theme force. The game felt like he was in control the entire way then all of a sudden I ended up tabling him and winning the game. It was at this point I decided I was going to have to drop. I never like to drop from an event but I felt terrible and was miserable. As I turned our results to Stubbs and was going to tell him I was dropping he said unless you were undefeated the event was done. So I avoided the dreaded drop but my day was over. I went to bed at 6pm and was there sweating, shaking, and coughing the remainder of the night.

Day 4

Day four was pretty much a wash I was feeling like complete dog poo and was not up for gaming at all. We packed up out gear and got the car loaded for the right home. Nick was struggling after having a rough night of beermachine the night before. We hit a Denny's with John, Jeremy, and Zack so we could hang with our out of town brothers one more time. After getting back from breakfast we walk through the gaming hall one last time saying good buys and doing our last mini shopping. Even though I was ready to leave I am really glad I made that last pass as I was able to get one of the Zombicide season 1 minis Marvin! The CMoN booth had four of the season one exclusives and while they are not allowed to sell the minis they were giving them away with the purchase of a game. Since I have all the games already I though I was SoL but after talking with the guy he said I could grab one if I picked up one of the box of zombies. I wanted more toxic zombies so this was a no brainer. BOOM Marv is part of the crew now!

My new Broken Egg trollkin sized tray. I elected to go with the single 120mm tray vs the double 120mm

SDE minis

My ticket to Marv!

Marv!

Gator Alexia and two sorcerers

Templecon dice from Iron Arena and a bottle of VGC paint I picked up

The full score

So that was my Templecon. I am not sure I am a huge fan of the new four day con but that may just be cause I was sick for >50% of it. Hopefully next year I can avoid the plague and get some more games in and spend some more quality time with friends.

Rivet Wars: First Impressions

Last week I had a chance to play my first games of Rivet Wars. I packed up the game and headed out in the frigid cold to my buddy Steve's house. Just in case we weren't "feeling it" I brought Zombicide as well. When I finally left at around midnight he had played six or seven games of Rivet Wars and never thought about breaking out the zombcide.We played through the first few mission in the book and swapped forces a few times. It feels like the forces are pretty well balanced but I do think the Blight character plug is better than the Alliance character. The game is a realy fun "beer and pretzel" game.

My only issue was not actually game play related but instead an issue with the board tiles. They was some mention that people were having warping issues and CMoN said they thought it was due to the extreme cold while shipping and that if you let them some to room temp before unwrapping there should be no issue. My box was in the house over a week and I still had an issue with some warping as you can see in thegame photos below.

All in all we had a really fun time playing this game and it will most certainly be one of the game we play on our game nights. I think the game will only be more enjoyable once we have a little more variety in our forces once the rest of my kickstarter arrives.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

So as I mentioned in my previous post I have been in a bit of a funk lately. We yesterday was one hell of a day and seems to have gotten me back on track. Yesterday one of our FLGS, Play the Game Read the Story(PTG), held a Colossal release event. Based on response on our local forums it looked doubtful the event would happen. Even though I didn't think we would play I decided to pack up the Khador and head down to the store. While I was packing up I took a little time fiddling with my airbrush and low and behold I figured out the issue with it and now it is fully functional.

When I got to PTG I noticed we had at least three of our regulars and also a new guy joining the ranks. I got on the phone and got Scudo to join us getting us up to six player. PTG was offering really nice prize support and provided pizza for use. Our group doesn't typically enjoy free play style events but it really was a good time. The sanctuary scenario was a fun one and I think I might build a sanctuary at some point so I can play it again some time. We had Cryx, Cygnar, Khador, Retribution, Circle, and Skorne represented.

One player had a colossal on the table and that was Abe playing the Stormwall. Everyone was trying to get free for all games in for the extra point so I played two one on one game before I got a four vs four with Scudo, Abe, and Ty. This game was pretty bananas and took forever. There was no strategy in the game as it turned into a big game of "oh no you didn't your gonna get yours now". Multiple times during the game people reversed field just to try and stick it to someone that attacked them the turn before. My pVlad was the first 'caster to bite the dust but my units and Rorsch/Brine fought on for the Motherland. By my calculations if Abe won the game I would finish first for the day taking $100 in store credit and the champion coin. Well when the dust cleared Abe did win but stunk an extra point (damn you Scudo)in before the win and Dave let eBaldur die to wurm counters which snuck him an extra point causing a three was tie for first between myself, Abe,and Scudo. We were already in the store an hour and a half past closing so we decided to pool 1st and 2nd place prize money an split it three way. I won the roll off for the champion coin but gave it to Scudo (playing circle so no coin) and took the Khador one to match the one I got from Wrath. The new guy won the door prize which was a copy of Colossals.

When I got home and helped get the boys to bed I headed to the cave and primed some minis for my FADD army. Yesterday was a really fun day and just what the doctor ordered.

ACM Tourney

First off I'd like to say happy father's day to all the dads out there....now on to the minis. Yesterday we had the Andy Cash Memorial Tourney at Comix Zone. No Mr Cash has not passed he is just entering the grown up world and leaving us for a job in Hotlanta (damn you Atlanta first Mozz and now the Professional. Well the professional will be leaving town in the next few days so this was are last chance to give him a proper spiteful goodbye. We had 8 people make it out to the store yesterday to play and faction representation was as such:

Cryx: 2
Khador: 1
Mercs: 1
Retribution: 1
Legion: 1
Skrone: 1
Trollblood: 1

This tournament was a 50pt SR2012, divide and conquest, deathclock event. After much back and forth (and a quick consultation with the man Mr "Northblade" Bell) I settled on my lists. My first list is my standard pMaddy beast brick which I love to play and have had pretty good success with. The second list brought in some new minis that had yet to see table time.

Chief Madrak Ironhide (*6pts)
* Pyre Troll (5pts)
* Troll Axer (6pts)
* Earthborn Dire Troll (10pts)
* Mulg the Ancient (12pts)
* Trollkin Runebearer (2pts)
Krielstone Bearer and 3 Stone Scribes (3pts)
* Krielstone Stone Scribe Elder (1pts)
Trollkin Champions (Leader and 2 Grunts) (6pts)
* Skaldi Bonehammer (3pts)
Fell Caller Hero (3pts)
Janissa Stonetide (3pts)
Troll Whelps (2pts)

This is pretty close to my standard list however this time I worked in a min champ unit with Skaldi.

Jarl Skuld, Devil Of Thornwood (*6pts)
* Troll Axer (6pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
* Dire Troll Bomber (10pts)
* Rok (11pts)
* Trollkin Runebearer (2pts)
Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts) (10pts)
Sons of Bragg (6pts)
Alten Ashley, Monster Hunter (2pts)
Saxon Orrik (2pts)
Troll Whelps (2pts)

I didn't take too many picture throughout the day (cause I forgot) but I did get a few shots of pre-round one setup and the cast of characters playing.

The man of the day "the Professional" himself
The big bear Zack rocking the Team Spite Toronto Conquest shirt.....but stealing Cash's pose.
Tim setting up those dirty dragon spawn
Staring off into nothing is one of our young'ins Adam. Playing dirty dirty Cryx.
Oxyguy AKA Les setting up mercs. Hey Les by the way you don't need all those bokurs Cash isn't playing eCaine :)
Ty and his angry elves
Reluctantly joining the festivities was Brian and his Skorne army.

So the parings were announced for round one and low and behold I draw Mr Cash. I was hoping our paths would cross later in the day but alas that was not to be. Andy was playing his standard pSkarre/eSkarre lists. The scenario for this was pretty centralized and was going to be hard to win so I went with the old stand by pMadrak.

 The first few rounds went according pretty standard with me setting up my brick and Andy running towards me head long. He feated and charged power swelled raiders into Mulg and EBDT and an axer. Eight of the ten were within Skarre's control area to take advantage of dark guidance and her feat. Andy underestimated the amount of damage Mulg can take under the effects of a KSB and EBDT animus with a wall in front of him. He was only able to get 3 reach attacks onto Mulg beating him up a little but just making Mulg angry. The rest of the turn was uneventful with my beasts getting a little beat up but no losses.

After measuring my control area it looked like Skarre was 14" away from Mulg and Madrak. She had two bokurs in front of her and a ton of troops between my force and her. Time to set up the assassination. I had my line pretty set I just needed to clear some room so Madrak could get far enough forward that Mulg could then get to Skarre via the feat and still benefit from carnage the entire way. Since all of Andy's army was still benefiting from her feat I had the pyre put flaming fists on Mulg to put his club at P+S 21 and the KSB ran and did +1 dmg. Things were going perfectly and I even crit smited a bokur over Skarre to knock her down this is gonna be cake...oh wait there was a raider captain near by..doh. I got down to Mulg's last attack needing a seven to hit but failed. I took the rest of the turn to protect Maddy the best I could via Janissa's wall and such. The following assassination failed due to the scroll, high def, the wall, and a transfer. Madrak finished the job on my next turn. Good start I was able to get a W and spite the man of the day.

Game two paired me up against Tim and his Legion of Everblight army. I reluctantly took Jarl because I wanted to be able to pick my army in the finals if I won instead of being pigeon holed into one list. Jarl's feat is really not good against Legion but them the breaks. Tim took pVaylCP. The game was back and forth with Tim having a couple crucial rolls fail putting him behind the curve. This was the maiden voyage of the SoB and Rok and I was happy with what the SoB accomplished with Tor killing 4 hex hunters and Bayal on his assault turn. Rok was just there looking scary keeping people away from Jarl. Game came down to the very end of our clocks and I won on scenario. This round saw Adam beat his old man to set us up for a finals match up.

Game three yay Cryx again. So my match ups for this tourney were Cryx, Legion, Cryx....YUCK. Adam was paying pDenny and eSkarre (I think it was e). He picked Denny and I went Jarl. I love my Madrak list but the fear of Mulg getting crippling grasp on him is terrifying to me and ruins my entire plan so Jarl stayed on the table. I won the roll and elected to go second. Adam ran an arc node up so he could start hitting me with debuff top of two. I couldn't have that happen so I did all I could to try and take out the arc on the bone chicken. After all my shots I was able to take out the cortex and Jarl feated throwing up 2 rows of clouds. Taking out the cortex was a major boon to my chances as he was unable to acquire a target turn two since the bonejack could walk far enough to see anyone through the second row of clouds. The game was back and forth with Adam holding the slight edge in piece trade off. Bottom of four was my shot to try and take out Denny. After using magic bullet three time (one cast by the runebearer) and two sets of blast damage I was able to kill of Denny (I had some poor MB damage rolls) to finish 3-0 and take first place.

It was a fun day and a nice send off of Mr Cash who took 2nd place with fastest last rights. Adam took 3rd with most VPs.

Farewell Andy you will be missed her in the 'cuse. Best of luck in Atlanta and make sure you bring the spite. Hope to catch you at Templecon 2013 and get a game. Safe travels and once again best of luck!

Tourney Recap

Hey guys. Yesterday we had a little tourney at our FLGS. I believe I mentioned this tourney briefly in another pots but he is a quick run down.

* 35 pts
* Casual Time Limit (35 would normally be 7 min turns these will be 10) to help with the new models
* You may have 1 league model per list AND/OR 1 jack/beats upgrade per list. Please indicate on your army list which league the model came from so we can find it.
* If you use a league model it REPLACES that type of model (ie if you take the Gravedigger Grenadier from the Nightfall league you can not take a normal Grenadier)
* 1st place Undefeated
* 2nd place "You Broke My New Toy" most points of league (models or upgraded jacks/beats) destroyed
* 3rd place Fastest Last Rite (Caster Kill with your Caster)

So I headed out to the tourney and got there right at noon (start time). Luckily we are typically a little behind so it wasn't an issue. I still didn't know what two lists I was going to play but I was toying with three or four different league models to try out. The league models in consideration were:

-Fellblades x2 units: fennblades that become weaponmasters and  have abominations, berserk, and a P+S increase of one. Lose vengeance. ('locks in consideration Calandra, eMadrak)
-Skaldi Bonehammer Drinking Buddy: becomes a solo, makes champ heroes and himself mini Borkas with stumbling drunk and unyielding, give a mat bonus to champions with LOS to him. (Borka)
-Noral (KSB Character unit): takes fury off 'beasts via *action and has a spray attack which can be boosted via fury. Still maintains protective aura. (pMadrak)

I was able to borrow a unit of Fennblades from Abe so the double fenn beame an option but he forgot to put the UA with it so the eMadrak idea I had went out the window leaving me Calandra, Borka, and pMaddy. I asked Adam which 'lock he wanted me to put on the table and without even knowing who I had in the back or my thoughtsd he says "Calandra or whatever her name is". I said you sure and he said yup so there it was Cally to be list one:

Calandra Truthsayer, Oracle of the Glimmerwood (*5pts)
* Troll Impaler (5pts)
* Dire Troll Bomber (10pts)
* Trollkin Runebearer (2pts)
Trollkin Fellblades (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Trollkin Fennblade Officer & Drummer (2pts)
Trollkin Fellblades (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Janissa Stonetide (3pts)
Stone Scribe Chronicler (2pts)
I just needed a second list. I went with Borka using the Family Reunion theme force:

Borka Kegslayer (*5pts)
* Slag Troll (6pts)
* Mulg the Ancient (12pts)
*Keg Carrier (n/a)
Greygore Boomhowler & Co. (Boomhowler and 9 Grunts) (9pts)
Krielstone Bearer and 5 Stone Scribes (4pts)
Skaldi Bonehammer, Drinking Buddy (3pts)
Trollkin Champion Hero (3pts)
Trollkin Champion Hero (3pts)
Both lists used Trollkin Champions (Leader and 2 Grunts) (6pts) as reinforcements if needed.

We had seven guys turn out for the event. It was a decent turnout not great seeing as the weather was crappy but not bad either.
So round one I drew Scudo. No real shock there I mean what kinda of local tourney would it be if I didn't draw Dave round one? In all seriousness I think we have played each other ion round one of close to 75% of the events I got to. Let's get it out of the way now...Damn you Scudo. I went with my fenn blades of doom with Calandra. Dave played his new obsession (2012) Blindwater Congregation but more specifically Maelok. His two lists were exactly the same just 'lock swaps. He is really into Maelok so I knew the list he was playing. His league model was the spitter upgrade which was almost important for later.

The piece of terrain in the center was a real pain in the ass. I think the scenario was destruction.

Here are a few other photos from round one. I had a second while Dave was setting up to go around and get photos of the other tables.

Les: rocking the purple Searforge.

 Ty: Ret of angry elves

Adam: dirty dirty Cryxian (yet such a likable young man...how is that possible?)

Mickey: Representing the swan. You might recognize Mickey's work. He writes articles for http://handcannononline.com/ under the handle DieselDM. Really sharp lookin Cygnar.

Zack: Throwing down in the name of the Motherland? Yup that is Zack's bear hand pointing out the two Khador Models in his "Khadoran" army list

Tim was running the event but seeing as we had an odd number played the whoever was on the bye. Once again representing Cryx which he claims will be shelved for the remainder of 2012. We will see Mr Tim if you can refrain from the darkness that is Cryx :)

So round one went pretty well for me ending in Calandra KDing Maelok via force blow, a fellblade and 2 bombs. AS I was setting up the kill I looked at Scudo's two remaining beast and noticed they were full so we are all good no transfers right? Wrong. I forgot about the league version of the spitter allowing it to receive transfers when full. Luckily the damage was just high enough on the final hit to kill Maelok to the T.

Round two I got paired up with Adam. I forgot to take photo of this one (happen at least once a tourney right?) He played Scaverous and seeing as were were playing on a winter board I decided to go Borka. This was a reinforcement scenario (forgetting name at the moment). It was the one where the reinforcements come in on the board edge you are trying to score on. Turn one I run everything up table and get buffs out. Adam was able to kill a boomhowler grunt and a KSB grunt via an arced feast of worms. Turn two I brought my champs on and ran them into the zone. I was able to get a few attacks in but nothing spectacular. On his turn he brought in a stalker and pistol wraith. The stalker charged one of my champ heroes but before he got to attack Skaldi counter charged and took out half his grid. He tried to kill Borka at range with a feated Scaverous but after hitting him once Borka stumbled out of range....also putting my mauler out of my control zone. Adam forgot to contest the zone so I scored a point. At this point the game is over 'cause you with with 2 CP and as soon as I end my turn I will score but what fun would that be....go for the throat Team Spite style. Some how needing to roll a 5 or lower on my mauler he passed his threshold check and didn't murder Greygore who was standing next to him. Borka moved up cast mosh pit and feated. A champ hero charged Scaverous KDing the 'caster and putting up some nice damage. I then had my slag do two fully boosted (4d6 due to erosion) spits onto Scaverous sending him back to the grave.

Round three put me up against Zack. I forget the mission (gotta start writing this stuff down) I knew he was going to play his eIrusk MoW block of death list. I went with the Calandra list.

I forgot to take a phot of his force but it was:

Supreme Kommandant Irusk (*5pts)
* Marauder (7pts)
Man-o-war Demolition Corps (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Man-o-war Shocktroopers (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Man-o-war Shocktroopers (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Man-o-war Kovnik (3pts)
Man-o-war Kovnik (3pts)

So Zack loves this list and he played a 50pt version for Templecon hardcore. The list just chews up anything in front of it but it is slow only being able to move 4"....wait what did you say Zack the league Kovnik gives them desperate pace making them speed 6? There goes the threat range advantage. I go first and move up the board he does as well. I am just outside of charge range so I put hero's tragedy on one unit of fenns and then move them up. I give him about three targets leaving the others ready to charge in retaliation. On his turn he kills the three fens I gave him and then managed to kill 3 move from shield cannons...huh? He then feats and due to placement issues on my part get a CP. OK time to charge and eat some of these MoW...wait eIrusks feat just ruined all of that. So at this point things are looking kinda bleak for the Kriels but I just damage what I can and try to target his league models to lock up second place if need be. We go back and forth for a few turns with each of us scoring one CP. Couple brain farts by each of us had pretty big impacts but when he forgot to battle lust the MoWs it was a big blow. We ended up going to dice down and I squeaked out a W via 3rd tie breaker. It felt kinda dirty seeing as he really had me on the ropes most of the game but it happens I guess.

The event was a lot of fun (it is always fun when I get to game). Thanks to Tim for running the event. Now I just need to decide what I am buying with my $40 of store credit :)

Lord Carver BMMD

Yesterday I finished up Carver and brought him to my FLGS to give to Les. I really enjoyed painting this mini and have been fighting the urge to start a small pig force....'cause once I get involved in a faction "small" never stays true. One of the contents of yesterdays mystery box is also making the pig urge difficult to fight. When I paint a mini almost every time I look at it I see more I could do or should have done differently but I am pleased with Carver and, more importantly, Les seemed to be really happy with him so win win. I didn't have time to take out the photo booth so no glamor shots for the BMMD. These will have to do for my files :)

As you can see I didn't dot the eyes. I didn't have time before I left the house but I brought my pigma micro pen so I could do it at the store but Les said he was happy with how he looked so I never bothered. This was the first mini I used my Army Painted tufts on and I was pretty happy with the results. I am not sure how it will blend in with my static grass used on my older trolls but I cross that bridge at a later date.

Quick overview on the two games from yesterday. I played Ty in game one and used eMadrak. He was playing Rayvn I believe. I went first and turn two popped Maddy's feat. I decimated most of his force on this turn and the game was pretty much done at that point. The game ended with a mat 10 Madrak applying axe to face.

Game two I played "the professional" Andy Cash. He swapped back over to Cryx for a bit and was playing one of his favorite Cryx 'casters in eSkarre. I decided to play Jarl this game. We traded a few pieces back and forth and it looked like I was set up really well defensively behind cloud cover and he had no LOS until he perditioned (I forgot about that) the only visible scout and moved the deathjack with 5 focus) into the clouds giving him LOS to my 'beasts. When the dust settled I was down an impaler and a bomber and was left fighting a major up hill battle. He followed up with his feat and that was pretty much game. He won on scenario but really he would have won on assassination in a turn or two if need be.
