Scrum Week 17 Wip

I was able to work on this weeks scrum entry a little yesterday am and touch more today. So here is the progress on the boneswarm up to right now. Baring any issues I shouldn't have a problem finishing him prior to heading into work tonight.

Here are the two 'swarms primed. Didn't get a chance to base them seeing as I forgot my glue at work

Basecoated one swarm with VGC Beasty Brown. I mixed this with isoproyl alcohol and based it via the airbrush.

I ran of of paint in the cup so only basecoated on swarm. These steps were done yesterday before I went to bed.

Here is the one boneswarm after a couple layers of drybrushing and gluing down the sand on the base. The glue is in the process f drying so I will finish that up after I get up tonight.

Here is a shot of my previous boneswarm and the wip 'swarm. OK off to bed for me.

Just Pick a Model

So the week is flying by and I still haven't selected a mini to paint for this weeks 'scrum challenge. To be honest I haven't really felt the urge to paint much since last Friday. I am not sure what has caused me to sputter but I have been building lists wanting to play and thinking about the new army I am starting. These activities aren't going top keep me on track and in line for a possible war wagon so yesterday afternoon while I was watching the boys I looked over my minion and troll models for something I can bang out in 2-4 hours total paint time and still get to look good. I was considering finishing a half painted Maelok but this is kind of cheating.....I think. Trolls are out 'cause I am a touch OCD about them so this leaves me with minions as my only option.

It was at this time I started to feel a little defeated and started to say "well it was a good run". As I was about to throw in the towel I came across two blisters of boneswarms. YAHTZEE! These 'swarms would help me kill two birds with one stone. Maybe two or three months ago I was showing a guy at work some of my stuff and when he saw the boneswarm asked if I could paint him one for his RGP group. I brought the two blisters into work tonight and took a 20min break to assemble them (didn't have the bases) and I will prime them when I get home and should be able to layed down the basecoat with the airbrush as well. After that it will be a couple layer of drybrushing/washes. If all goes really well I might be able to have them done tonight but most likely tomorrow afternoon.

On the topic of my new FADD project my order for discountgamesinc.com showed up today. I placed my order at 1520 on Monday and had the order at my door at 1500 Wednesday. Idaho to New York pretty damn good turn around for free shipping. I have to say discount games inc has become my favorite online retailer by leaps and bounds. The only issue I have with them is the inventor seems to be a little thin. What I mean is that they appear to only have one or two of a lot of key minis so if you wanted to pick up two or three of the same item you might be out of luck. This happened to me with runeshapers in the past and a few solos this time were at one when I put them in my cart (I wanted two) and they were stocked out when I went to check out. At 30% off and free shipping with fantastic turn around time I can get past this. So I got 25pts worth of minis today which I hope to assemble over the next few weeks/months in anticipation of a one month painting challenge to myself. I might throw it out to the group and see if anyone wants to join me on this 35pt in a month journey (doubt it).

Still Kicking

Hey all. Well my paint station has seen very little activity since I "finished" Rorsh on Friday evening. The reason I put finished in quotes is I am not happy with some of the final detail work and need to redo it down the road. I have done a little work over the last few days but nothing of note. I primed the Extremoth that Rob did for me and a min unit of Trollkin Champions which I need to paint of the next three weeks to fulfill both my 'scrum requirements and this months PTT.

I have done a few more demo games with my buddy Greg and it looks like he might be really getting into the game so that was cool. The problem is these mini demo grams really has me itching to play a "real" game which won't happen for at least a week.

I also need to admit my FADD has once again gotten the better of me and I picked up 3 'casters from my FLGS with my last tourney winnings and placed an order with my new favorite online retailer discountgamesinc.com My goal with this army is to do one test mini over the course or this month them wait until the end of the summer to work on the rest. There are a few new releases I am waiting on to make the lists I have planned which is one of the reasons for the delay. The other is I want to do the entire army in one month. I want to try and push myself to not obsess as much over stuff and try and bang out an army but don't want to do that with my trolls. I also bought a bunch of scenic bases from dragonforge.com which i intend to use for the entire force. OK just a quick update need to get ready for work. Hopefully I will have some wips for you tomorrow of this weeks 'scrum mini as I really need to get going on that if I intend to submit something this week.

Week 16 Nearly Done

I didn't get to do too much more on Rorsh last night before I headed out to do my demo game. I did do a little work last night a little more this am and am now nearly finished.

I think most people would say looks done call it a day but I need to do the bandoleer and few more small detail items to call him done. I am heading into work for a meeting this afternoon and to pick up four hours of extra work so I will be finishing him up last min (only seems fitting I suppose) but it shouldn't be too stressful. I really should get cracking on his buddy so the pair is complete.

Early Bird Wip

Once again I was up at the butt crack of dawn. My oldest son decided he wanted to wake me up at ~4am and then fall asleep in my spot of the bed. Once he got me up I was awake so I left him bed with the wife and headed to the basement. After throwing a load in the washer I sat at the painting table and got back to work on Rorsh. I did two more highlights on the skin and I can call that done, I did the leather cloak and stitching, and started working on teeth, tusks, and nails.

Looking at the mini I need to do highlight the black straps, dynamite, nails/teeth/tusks, cigar, a few metal highlights on rivets and buckles, clean up the gun details a bit, and highlight the slugs in his bandoleer. sounds like a bunch but should be pretty straightforward. After that just need to throw the base together and call him done. I just put a layer of matte down to seal the current progress. After that dries I hope to get a a little more done. Seeing as he is slated to go in a Khador force I also did a little more on my Butcher who was sitting on the table staring at me menacingly. I didn't get enough done to snap any photos but a little progress is better than no progress. I have to work on my photo set up a little. Ever since I moved my stuff to the basement they just are coming out as well.

If everything goes as planned I think I am going to be giving my buddy Greg a demo game tonight. He has never played any table top games so I sent him to the PP site to look over the minis and see what caught his fancy. He used to play some MtG back in the day and claims to have been a white horde style player so I figured he would pick a "good guy" faction....nope I get a text two days ago saying "I like Cryx". Just what the world needs more Cryx. Well the good thing is I have that starter for him to try out. I think I will be packing up my Gorten box set to play against him.

Week 16 Wip

Rorsh is coming along nicely. Once again this am while doing some laundry (it is never ending in this house) I worked on Rorsh. Rorsh, very similar to Skaldi, has been a pleasure to paint and is moving along pretty fast. I got a little ahead of myself and really worked on some of the details this am but I couldn't help myself.

I need to start working the cloak next time seeing as that is the largest section needing attention. The skin is going to need one or two more highlights but that should go fairly quickly seeing as he doesn't have a lot of skin exposed. After cloak and skin it will be mostly finishing up the detail work and basing him. There is soooo much brown on him I am trying to introduce a little bit of color but having a hard time finding a place....maybe the trim on the coat?

Who Doesn't Like Bacon?

I was up this am around 4am so while working on laundry in the basement I got some good work on Rosch. He meets my requirements for progress on my Khador army and 'scrum weekly entrance. I basecoated the cloak and metals, washed the metals, cloak, and hood, and drybrushed the fur. If I get a chance later I will work on this skin a little and start working the cloak back up.

Also this am I checked out lost hemisphere and they had April's targets posted and the May challenge up. I cannot tell but it looks like Northblade is responsible for this months....curse you Bell! This months challenge is to paint a unit....uuuggghh! Well maybe I can do a min unit of champs hmmmm have to think it over. Well my time is up the boys are running around like mad men gotta go catch em.
